FAQ
Straight answers about what Multipart3D is, how privacy works, and what you can export.
What is Multipart3D?
Multipart3D is a free browser tool that splits STL and painted 3MF models into parts optimized for 3D printing. You can cut, reshape, add joints and connectors, and export the pieces without CAD software or uploading your files.
Do my files leave my computer?
No. Loading, cutting, and exporting all run locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to or stored on a server.
Is Multipart3D free?
Yes. Multipart3D is free to use, with no signup and no install. Tips are optional if you want to support development.
Which file formats are supported?
STL for classic meshes, and 3MF including painted models from Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, and PrusaSlicer. Color-aware splitting for painted 3MF is available in beta.
What kinds of cuts can I make?
Planar cuts through the whole model, area cuts inside a rectangle or circle, dovetail cuts with interlocking teeth, smart detach to peel a clicked feature, and separate-by-color for painted 3MF regions.
Can parts go back together after cutting?
Yes. The tool includes connectors such as dowels and magnets so parts can align and lock during assembly. More joint types are on the roadmap.
Is this a slicer or CAD program?
No. Multipart3D does not generate G-code and is not a full CAD suite. It focuses on splitting and preparing printable parts; you still slice the exported meshes in your usual slicer.
Why would I split a model that already fits my printer?
Common reasons include fewer supports, better surface quality, multi-color or multi-material prints, stronger layer orientation, easier finishing, or replaceable fragile pieces. It is not only for oversized models.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes. You may use the tool for any purpose, including client and product work. Attribution is not required.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email roy@dreamlayer.nl. Feedback helps decide what ships next (for example auto-partition for build volume and richer 3MF color workflows).
